Upcoming Semillas Tardeada on August 29, 2010 for all students and families
Good evening, this is a message from Semillas Community Schools. This message serves to invite you to the Semillas Tardeada that will take place on Sunday, August 29, 2010 from 8am – 4pm at the 4990 Huntington Dr. All parents and students for the 2010 – 2011 School year are required to attend the schools’ first meeting with parents. During the Tardeada you will meet with your teacher, receive classroom assignments and schedules and receive information about many of the services offered by the school. In addition, you will receive a coupon for a free drink, one for 20% off your order at Xokolatl café and raffle tickets for the Tianguis occurring simultaneously at Xokolatl café. 2010 - 2011 New Student Orientation
Greetings from Semillas Community Schools. This message serves to inform the public about the new enrollment orientation for the 2010-2011 school year. The orientation will take place this Saturday, July 31st, 2010 at 10am. The address of the campus where the orientation will take place is 4736 Huntington Dr. South Los Angeles, California 90032.
If you or someone you know is interested in enrolling a K-10 student for the 2010-2011 school year please be sure to attend the orientation. Please bring your child's birth certificate, health and immunization records and a utility bill. Please be advised that if there are more applicants than there is space a public lottery will be held in order to determine which student will be enrolled.

Pancake Breakfast Marathon Fundraiser at Xokolatl Café

Xokolatl Café will be hosting a special Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser Saturday, June 19, from 7:00am to 12pm, to help send a delegation of six Anahuacalmecac High School students to the Hanban Chinese Bridge Summer Camp in connection with the UCLA Confucius Institute.
100% of the sales from the Pancake Fundraiser and Xokolatl Café sales from the entire day will go toward the student's trip to China. The day will also include a raffle for a three-course meal for two prepared personally by Xokolatl Café chef Ernesto Moreno and a Silent Auction to raise additional funds.

This will mark the third consecutive year that Semillas students participate in the program, which is an elite two-week intensive Mandarin language and Chinese culture-training program for high school students. During the 2-week program students will have the opportunity to develop their language skills by attending a variety of classes, interacting with Chinese students, and participating in field trips and sightseeing activities.
The Pancake Breakfast will include a fluffy stack of three buttermilk pancakes with choice of café de olla (Mexican coffee), orange juice or milk for $8.00.

NINE Anahuacalmecac STUDENTS TO COMPETE IN THE 1ST ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL WUSHU TOURNAMENT IN LOS ANGELES
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 26, 2010) – Nine students grades 6-10th from Semillas Community Schools (www.dignidad.org), a non-profit charter school with an emphasis on indigenous culture and tradition, will compete this weekend at the First International Wushu Tournament in Los Angeles. For three years the Semillas students have been studying Wudang Kung Fu, the oldest form of Chinese martial arts, under Wudang secular monk Zhong Xuechao, who goes by Master Bing. The students will compete on various divisions and styles.

What: The first International Wushu Tournament in Los Angeles, co-produced by the UCLA Confucius Institute and the Shaolin Wushu Center of Los Angles. This is an international regulation event open to individuals and groups. This is a unique opportunity bringing together top-ranked Wushu experts, competitors, coaches and officials to Los Angeles for a weekend of stellar performances, great food and activities including a Master Seminar/Workshop on Sunday May 30th at the Shaolin Wushu Center of Los Angeles. Today, wushu has been organized and systematized into a formal branch of study in the performance arts by the Chinese.
